Große Dinge beginnen oft klitzeklein.

Friday/January 15 was a good day. I was up in the morning to get the kids awake and ready for the day. At breakfast, One ate a lot more than normal and insisted that it was because he was so hungry. HD looked at me and asked me if I thought One had been eating more than usual. I'm not sure why this surprised me so much, that he turned to ask me instead of HM. I had spent more time with the kids than either HD or HM throughout the week. I guess it makes sense that I would notice and that his first reaction would be to ask me. It was neat. Anyways, I went back to sleep when everyone was gone. I had to be home between 2-3pm to wait for a guy to come pick something up from the house. Since the time frame was kind of awkward for me to be able to go into the city after my nap/lunch, I opted to stay home and have a quiet day inside. HM and the kids got home in the late afternoon, but I didn't have to work. There was another Au Pair meeting in Erlangen that evening. I went to the first meeting back in October, but I hadn't been able to go to either of them in November or December. I decided to check it out and see what would come of it. Only four other people ended up going, and they were all other au pairs from the first meeting. The five of us went out to a bar afterwards and hung out for another few hours. It's nice to talk to people who completely understand my situation. Sure, we have different families and different issues, but overall, we understand each other better than anyone else. It's nice to have that connection. I had to work in the morning so I left just before midnight. It's a 40 minute train ride on the local train from the Erlangen Hauptbahnhof to the train station in my neighborhood (luckily it's a direct train). The last train back to Nürnberg leaves at 1am and the next one isn't until 4am or later, so I have to make sure to get home before I'm stuck there. All in all, they are cool people and I'm sure I'll be hanging out with them again, or I hope I will.

Saturday was a busy day for me. I was up at 9:30am to have breakfast with the family and we also talked for a bit. HP eventually left for the grocery store and I stayed home with the kids. The boys and I went outside and played in the snow for over an hour. I couldn't feel my toes by the end of it, but the boys surely had a blast. We finished up outside just as HP got home. HP unpacked the food while I cooked lunch. We all ate together and then HP took the kids upstairs for a nap. I cleaned up after lunch. Once I was finished in the kitchen, my working hours were over. I called some friends to finalize our plans for the day. Around dinnertime I left the house to go to a food truck gathering. As I was leaving, Two was standing with HD in the foyer. HD told Two to say goodbye to me, which he did. When I turned to walk out the door, Two ran after me with his hand in the air, wanting a high five. It was absolutely adorable. I met Adam, Eddie, and Kelsey at the Hauptbahnhof. The four of us jumped on the subway and went to the Nürnberg Messe, which is the exhibition center in town. About 20-25 food trucks were arranged in a large circle under the pavilion, with tables, chairs, and a DJ set up in the middle. It's been really cold here, and Saturday was no exception. It was snowing for awhile while we were at the food trucks. Anyways, we all enjoyed some cheap and delicious food. I got a pretty good laugh when I saw one truck that claimed to sell "authentic Mexican." I went closer to read the menu and I saw that they were serving "pulled turkey bbq burritos," which is absolutely not "authentic" Mexican food. In general, I was surprised at the large number of food trucks serving barbecue. There's certainly not many, if any, barbecue restaurants here. Maybe they're all in food truck form instead. We stayed about an hour. We headed back into the city center and had a couple drinks at a bar before we caught a train to Ansbach. One of their friends was DJing at a bar in town and the whole extended friend group was going. We made it to Ansbach around 10pm and then went to meet up with everyone else. We all somehow ended up getting separated into three large groups of people which all arrived at the bar separately. We danced the night away and had a good time. I had been wanting to go dancing since Thursday, and I got to dance to my heart's content that night. The group split up as the night went on, with some people going on to other bars, and some of us heading home. The four of us (me, Adam, Kelsey, and Eddie) jumped in a taxi and went back to Eddie's to crash.

Sunday morning we all slept in. Adam and I were the first ones awake. Our noise woke up Eddie and Kelsey. We spent some time marveling at the amount of snow that had fallen overnight. We ate, lazed around, and enjoyed each others company. That was basically the theme of the day. We normally spend our time together doing something, so it was cool to spend time together just doing nothing.  I ended up spending the night again, as they didn't have to work the next day/Monday due to MLK Day. I typically don't work Mondays, so I had decided to skip my German class to hang out.

This week has already been long, and it's only Monday.
